For this project I chose to construct my website by using Wix.com mainly because I have used the others in some fashion before and Livebinders just didn’t seem to fit with the idea that I had for my website. I plan on taking another look at LiveBinders to see about utilizing it in the future and possibly adding a LiveBinders page to my training website. Since this is all about learning new Web 2.0 technology I try and take every opportunity to use something new for each assignment. I had seen a Wix Website before and wasn’t exactly impressed with what I saw so I was somewhat apprehensive in the beginning. Once I signed up and started browsing around I realized it is “way cooler” that I previously thought! Wix has an enormous selection of templates; the hardest part is choosing just one to get started. I quickly narrowed it down to two and the more I looked through the site, the more ideas popped into my head and I immediately new which template would work for my project.
My favorite part of the template are the computer monitors on the main page. The problem was that it only provided three monitors and I needed more. I got an idea late one night to save one of the monitor images and then try an import it back into the template as an image. Thankfully, it worked and my project idea took off from there! The funniest part was that I just happened to be on the phone with my dad when I was testing everything out………although he had no clue what I was talking about or doing, he got to share in my elation and joy…to which I quickly ended the phone call because I had just entered the “zone” 🙂
Working with Wix was a little annoying at first. But just like anything new you work with there’s going to be some trial and error and a little frustration. Once I figured out the pages, using the text boxes and the editing features everything went a lot smoother as the project went on. I really enjoyed working with Wix and would definitely recommend it to friends and colleagues.
My purpose for many of my projects is to kill two birds with one stone. I have so many ideas that I want/need to incorporate into my classroom and professional development sessions. So when the opportunity arises to develop an assignment and tackle a project, I try to take that advantage. I was fortunate to do that in this case.
My purpose for the website is to use as a resource for our teachers. I plan on hosting some PLC’s and professional development sessions soon and thought this would be a great tool that our teachers could refer to after the sessions. When fully completed, the site will have complete step-by-step instructions and examples. If anyone has sat in on a professional development session or PLC’s you know the instructor can often wiz through everything so quickly you find yourself not being able to keep up or understand what is going on. By having this website, it allows everyone to revisit the session on their own time and learn at a pace fit for them.
Hope you enjoy the site!
